  I've been hiking for over three weeks from St. Jean Pied de Port, and while I don't usually write bad reviews, I think this is important to share: I called the previous night to reserve two beds. I called three hours ahead of arrival to confirm the availability of bottom bunk beds due to the fact that both my girlfriend and I have sustained some injuries while walking that get aggravated by climbing up the ladders to top bunks. The reservation was confirmed with no problem. We arrived earlier than expected, and the hosts promptly offered us a private room with six bunk beds for double the price. When we said we wanted to pay only for our two beds, they told us that everyone asks for bottom bunks, and therefore they can't seriously entertain such requests, and that they didn't have our reservation available. When confronted with the fact that they had said yes to our request three hours prior, a man who appeared to be the owner stated that five guests in their sixties and seventies had reserved beds days in advance, and that they were in a mix of bottom and top bunks. The implication was clear: my girlfriend and I should feel embarrassed and ashamed for being so entitled, and just deal with it and take the top bunks. He eventually caved in and opened up two bottom bunks for us in the private family room, but he never acknowledged that he or his business was in the wrong, nor that our needs were valid as well as clearly communicated in advance. We ended up staying here only because this is the sole albergue in town, and because it's the weekend in O Cebreiro, and so it's doubtful we would find a place to stay even if we kept walking a while longer. Injuries happen on the camino. It is what it is. Thank goodness ours aren't more serious than they are. We weren't asking for much from A Escuela, but we were met with sarcasm, disrespect, and very poor service overall. I suggest avoiding this place if you can.

  A good place to stop before reaching the top of the last high mountain in the Camino De Santiago. Nice food and lots of beds. There's practically nothing else in this town but lots of people stop here, so it's a nice spot to meet other pilgrims.

  Run. This place sucks and the bartender with ring in her nose will cheat you

  Stopped here for coffee and the rudeness of the bartender and staff deterred me from staying the night. The bartender was impatiently strumming her fingers on the counter next to my wallet as I was trying to find 1.40 euro to pay for my drink. That's rude behavior in any culture.
